November 07, 1943 Fayetteville NY Piano Teacher www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/cflower3?ref=profile Married 4 I left Ithaca for SU as a Home Ec major and graduated with 2 piano performance degrees. My husband played drums with Otis and the AllNight Workers (many Cornell parties...) and also with the Syracuse Symphony, from which he retired this year, after 41 years. I spent most Saturday nites attending the SSO, and got to play "extra" with them in the 70's and 90's.I've taught piano privately since 1966 and have accompanied choirs, musicals and NYSSMA auditions for 40 some years.A stint of subbing sent me to get Certification and I taught General Music/Theory in our middle school for 22 years, retiring 5 years ago.I continue to teach an incredibly interesting bunch of piano students who keep me honest..and very busy. We've had 4 children; Kirby, in NursingInformatics in K.C.Mo;Hallie, actor/director, dayjob = highend hardware, in Keene NH; Erin,HR for Biogen Idec in Boston; and Jeremy, composer, laptop specialist, sound designer, also in Boston. There are 2 grands in KC, 2 in NH, and one each in Boston so our traveling routes are pretty well established.(tho we did get to Switzerland for Erin's wedding, and and have enjoyed a cruise or 2). Mostly we "vacation" at a family camp outside Old Forge. Our lives are routine, and simple..We've been fortunate. My Mom is at Kendal, so my trips to Ithaca are often...will certainly be there in July 2011 ;)
this reunion committee is something! You folks are making us all feel like its going to be something we can't miss! Kudos! Send Carol a MessageSend Carol a Message

November 18, 1943 Durham NC part-time psychology instructor, business owner www.bullcityhomebrew.com/ Married 3 Wellsville High Nope Right after high school, I married an Iranian and went to live in Iran and had two children there. I had a chance to teach in the USIA sponsored language school in Tehran and learned how much I loved teaching. We returned to Ithaca so he could earn his MS and then went to Oregon for his PhD. I had my third son in Corvallis.
Hubby went to work for ICI, now Astra Zeneca, and we ended up in North Carolina in 1973, We divorced in 1980. I was selling real estate at the time. In those days divorce was a criterion for the job. In 1981 I remarried and bought a restaurant and later a second, Miss Kitty's Steak and Seafood Palace. It was an enormous barn but with fireplaces and table cloths and fancy waiters.
In 1987, I sold my interest, left hubby #2, and enrolled in North Carolina State University as a freshman in 1988. I did my BA, MS, and PhD in Life Span Developmental Psychology in 1999. I was full time adjunct at Elon University for 6 years after having done various other adjunct teaching at
a few Universities. Long story best shared over a good Borolo.
In Feb of 2007, I left Elon pretending to be retired and took a part-time position (they count me as full-time but hey) at ECPI college. I still love teaching.
I have been married since 1989 to Patrick Donovan and we raised my two grandchildren, who are now in college.
I have just started a business with two partners and so I am very busy.
Don't be alarmed at my current photo taken last week by me in the kitchen with my Mac. I was 12 days out from a micro lift (po' folks face encouragement).
I have a bunch of other stuff going on. I make soap from scratch and face and body creams and other stuff. Mostly, we just make and drink lots of wine. I volunteer at our Unitarian Fellowship and belong to a group that reads A Course In Miracles together every week.
That is surely more than anyone wants to know. I am on Facebook and visit ever few months.
I'll scan in a then soon.
I only graduated from Ithaca High and really didn't know most of you as well as I would have liked. However, my best life-long friend, Linda Gaden unwittingly set the course of my life. I love her anyhow.  Send Katherine a MessageSend Katherine a Message

June 30, 1943 Rochester NY Retired Divorced 2 Central School Boynton Junior High IHS This is my life so far…

After high school, while the world was changing, assassination of John and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, the Vietnam War and the dawning of the Age of Aquarius; I led a fairly predictable life, what with being a wife, mother of 2 daughters and a secretary in the Ag School. Then my life began to catch up with the world, I became a divorced mother of 2, working part time and going to college full time at Cornell.

In 1977, with degree, in hand the girls and I headed to Rochester, NY for fame and fortune. We didn’t find either one but we did make a wonderful life for ourselves. Soon after moving to Rochester and starting my career in manufacturing, I was diagnosed with Lupus. At the time very little was known about the disease except that it was a death sentence. I decided that I wasn’t going to let this disease define me. When the lupus would knock me down, I would get right back up! I eventually found my niche working with non-profits, and after 11 years I retired from the American Diabetes Association as Area Director in 2005. Over the course of time, both my daughters became graduates of Rochester Institute of Technology and are currently employed.

I found that I adapted quite well to life as a retiree, I set out to check the items off my Bucket list: I was a high roller in Las Vegas, check, marveled at the magnificence of the Hoover Dam check, was humbled by the majesty of the Grand Canyon, check; luxuriated on a Caribbean cruise, check; witnessed the jubilation of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person; check.

Life has a way of throwing you curveballs just to keep you on your toes. Our family has dealt with the lost of 7 beloved members of my family: 2 brothers-in-law, our 2 aunts, 1 uncle, and our beloved mother –IHS class of 1938, and brother Michael Love, the youngest member of the Love family- IHS class of 1972 (mother and Mike passed within 2 months of each other).

My Lupus was in remission and then made a comeback with a vengeance.
I ended up in a coma for a month. It wasn’t quite so easy to bounce back this time. I have spent the last 7 years recovering from the affects of Lupus and whatever caused the coma. Because of my illness, my daughters, Denise and Gina, moved home to take care of me. They are the best. My recovery involved seeing a team of doctors, going to the gym 4-5 days a week and gardening (vegetables & flowers). But if there’s one thing I know, things have a way of working out for the best.

At my suggested my cousin Connie “brains” IHS class of 1962, and I; started a family investment club called “Kitten Britches”. We have been able to pay for part of our trips to New York City.

In 2008, my daughters and I worked on the Obama’s “Get out the Vote Campaign” by travelling to Cleveland, OHIO and knocking on doors for 2 weekends.

My girls and I have adopted an inner city preschool class and are providing the children with book bags filled with school supplies that we have purchased through out the year. We have also given Halloween treats and Valentine Day cards for the children. We adopted a 4th grade inner city class where we provide snacks and school supplies for the children and teachers. Whenever needed, we volunteer our time in the classroom.

I look forward to coming to my 4th class reunion with my daughters, 2 of my sisters - IHS class ’60 & 63 and niece – IHS class 1984. See you at the 50th reunion!!!

August 11, 1943 Denver CO CPA - retired Divorced East Hill Boynton After Cornell, I worked as newspaper reporter for the Washington Star in D.C. and then at the Northern Virginia Sun in Arlington, VA. Then taught figure skating in the Washington area to put a new husband through law school. After the divorce, I went to Virginia Commonwealth University for a degree in Accounting, and passed the CPA exam. Worked for the Virginia State Corporation Commission in electric utility regulation, and was the audit manager for the electric sector. My claim to fame there was that I conducted a lead/lag study to development the cash component of Virginia Power's rate base, and cut their rate base by $126 million. Then I decided I was working way too hard, and took off for Steamboat Springs, CO. so that I could work where I like to play. Linda (twin sister) lives there, and we have had a great time competing with each other skiing at excessive speeds. Bill Smith can attest to the workout we've given him. when he comes for a quiet ski vacation. While in Steamboat I worked in the Finance Dept. for the County, and was responsible for the fiscal oversight of the regional airport. I built a fabulous house there on 35 acres and had two horses, two dogs, and two cats and a 48 HP 4 wheel drive tractor to blow the huge snowfalls there. After two hip replacements, I decided to retire from the County, sold the house, and now I'm living happily ever after. I bought a house in Virginia, and am planning to sell it and move back to Colorado. That is the current plan Update: I have finally sold the Virginia properties and have relocated to Denver.

May 21, 1943 Harvard MA semi-retired Divorced 2 Cayuga Heights Boynton Boynton Left IHS - attended and graduated from Emma Willard School after three years. Got associate degree in pre-school education. Transferred to university for bachelors. Dropped out after one year. Married the man of my dreams (I thought). We had two children. Volunteered in elementary school - almost returned to get the degree. My in-laws were killed in tragic plane accident. We took over management of family business and that ended prospects of a degree.

Several years down the road husband wanted "out" of our marraige but wanted me to help him manage business. I said "NO". Picking up the pieces and moving on are easier said than done. Became volunteer EMT (16 years) in town. Got involved in church. Very good friends and family kept me going.

Employment was a challenge for a stay-at-home mom. After too many "temp" jobs I found myself as office manager for an enviornmental engineering firm. Worked there for 17 years.

Both children are married to wonderful spouses, have provided me with three beautiful granddaughters and live not too far away. Through a twist of fate I have a wonderful man in my life while we share the ups and downs of our extended families.

About a year ago Loulie Hoffman Kent (wearing a "Ithaca is Gorges" t-shirt) was walking in her Cambridge neighborhood.  She ran into another neighbor who noticed the t-shirt and asked if she might know Sheila Heasley.

Turns out that neighbor was one of  my roommates at Emma Willard.  Loulie claims she had been trying to find me.  She and George came to Harvard to pick Northern Spy apples last fall.  The reconnection has been fun and I look forward to those continued connections in July.
