Candor NY retired Single Cayuga Heights Boynton Boynton I have worked as a graphic artist through the years. I worked for others and then for myself. I worked on things which got printed - newspapers, brochures, and magazines. I especially enjoyed designing books for local publishers. I did some illustrating, but decided I liked book design better. In the early years I worked by hand using circles, triangles, and T-squares. Lots of cutting and pasting. Then the last ten years I learned to do it all on a computer, which was required.

When I retired I got rid of the computer and am happy to be computer free. I do some water color painting and some pen and ink. I also enjoy working with fabrics, sewing my creations and selling at local markets.
About 19 years ago I was baptized a Jehovah's  Witness.  I am active in my congregation, and my faith is the primary focus of my life.

I talk with classmate and former neighbor Carol Ross Penhollow nearly every day.

March 21, 1943 Brooktondale NY retired Widowed 5 Henry St. Johns & Central Boyton Yes I worked at Cornell until retiring (the first time) in 1999 to care for my husband. Went back to Cornell part-time after his death. Retired for the second time in 2001. I helped with many sick relatives during that time and cared for my grandchildren after school. I have always helped out with reunion committee up until the last reunion in 2006. Right after reunion, in October 2006, I suffered a stroke. Doctors couldn't believe I survived it and remember everything that happened during it. I am in a wheelchair now and paralyzed on the right side. I have trouble speaking, but as anyone knows, that won't stop me. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next reunion!

April 04, 1943 Bedford NH Retired Married 5 East Hill, West Hill Boynton Jr. High Don't remember Two years of college at R.I.T. majoring in Retailing. Got married & moved to CA for 2 years then I moved to MA & worked for Itek Corp. Had 2 children & relocated to NH & helped my husband start Microtek Corp. Divorced in 1976 & remarried in 1978 to Jim Waterman who had the custody of his three children. So we became the Brady Bunch minus one & no Alice to clean the house. We have been married 32 years.

I have worked at several different jobs until my retirement last year. Worked in the Hotel industry as a Bartender, Banquet Sales, & Mary Kay Cosemetics. For the past 20 years I went back to Retail Sales as a Manager in Fine Craft Galleries in Bedford.

My Husband, Jim has also retired from sales in the Broadcast Industry.
Our retirement is anything but boring with having our 5 children & 7 grandchildren living close by. Our youngest son owns a restaurant in Manchester, NH called UnWine'd which will be 10 years old in June. I have several odd jobs there including making desserts from old family recipes, sewing curtains & wall hangings every time Scot decides to undergo an expansion, which has happened 4 times in 9 years, plus decorating UnWine'd for the Holidays.

We can't believe our oldest grandson is a Sr. at Berklee School of Music in Boston. The other grandchildren range in age from 19 to twin boys age 7. All are involved in sports, so you know what that means.

Jim & I are still very much interested in American Indian art & have filled our home with it, after numerous trips to the Southwest. I'm tempted to open another Gift Gallery of just American Indian art.

One of our other passions is the Boston Red Sox. Jim's parents have had season tickets for over 35 years. Soooo guess where we spend many summer evenings?

We have our first Cruise booked for Jan. 2012. Our granddaughter, Katie, turns 21 in Jan. & she has invited us to join her & her parents on her birthday cruise to the Caribbean. Can't turn that down!

We'll see everyone next July!

September 11, 1943 Coventry CT www.ims.uconn.edu/faculty/mshaw.html Married As did many IHS grads, I marched up the hill to Cornell, where I majored in Chemical Engineering and wrote a master thesis on polymer degradation. Having caught the polymer bug, I elected to study under Prof. Tobolsky, a prominent polymer scientist at the time. As he was in the Chemistry Department at Princeton University, I had to switch majors. Finally in 1970 I completed the PhD and took a job at the now-defunct Union Carbide in Bound Brook, NJ. After a lively seven-year stint as an industrial researcher, I accepted an offer at the University of Connecticut and a 35% pay cut. But, it has been a great job. I use the past tense, because I officially retired in 2009. Unofficially, I am still at the same desk and still conducting research.

So, that’s the official story. On a more personal level, I married Stephanie Habel (’62) in 1966 and we had a son Steven in 1973. Steven has three kids now. Unfortunately, Stephanie died in a hiking accident in Switzerland in 1989—my darkest moment. But things gradually improved, and in 1994, I married a Filipino woman, Maripaz Nespral, whom I met through a colleague at UConn. You will meet her at the reunion.

Sometimes it seems like only yesterday, and then I start to walk and realize its almost 50 years ago and I'm a LOT older now!  Would love to be there in 2011, but it's a long way away, and I don't fly well, and haven't driven a car in almost 10 years.  If I don't make it....hope you all have a wonderful time. August 17, 1943 Endicott NY Retired Married 3 Immaculate Conception Immaculate Conception IHS Left Ithaca for nursing school in PA. After graduating from there, I worked for a short time at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. I got married to Jack in 1965 and we have spent most of our married life in the Endicott, NY area. We have three kids and four grandkids--Tim lives in Atlanta, Kate in CT, and Amy in MD. Three grandkids are in CT and the newest one is in Atlanta, so we don't get to see them as much as we would like. I retired in 2004 after 22 years as an RN Administrator for a home health agency. I LOVE retirement but I like to be busy and keep my brain cells alive, so I volunteer with United Way, Office For Aging and as a health insurance counselor. At home I enjoy gardening(in nice weather),knitting and curling up with our dog and a good book.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of my friends from the Class of '61 and from Immaculate Conception Class of '57.  Hope you will all be part of the celebration in 2011.  Send Ann a MessageSend Ann a Message

November 07, 1943 Fayetteville NY Piano Teacher www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/cflower3?ref=profile Married 4 I left Ithaca for SU as a Home Ec major and graduated with 2 piano performance degrees. My husband played drums with Otis and the AllNight Workers (many Cornell parties...) and also with the Syracuse Symphony, from which he retired this year, after 41 years. I spent most Saturday nites attending the SSO, and got to play "extra" with them in the 70's and 90's.I've taught piano privately since 1966 and have accompanied choirs, musicals and NYSSMA auditions for 40 some years.A stint of subbing sent me to get Certification and I taught General Music/Theory in our middle school for 22 years, retiring 5 years ago.I continue to teach an incredibly interesting bunch of piano students who keep me honest..and very busy. We've had 4 children; Kirby, in NursingInformatics in K.C.Mo;Hallie, actor/director, dayjob = highend hardware, in Keene NH; Erin,HR for Biogen Idec in Boston; and Jeremy, composer, laptop specialist, sound designer, also in Boston. There are 2 grands in KC, 2 in NH, and one each in Boston so our traveling routes are pretty well established.(tho we did get to Switzerland for Erin's wedding, and and have enjoyed a cruise or 2). Mostly we "vacation" at a family camp outside Old Forge. Our lives are routine, and simple..We've been fortunate. My Mom is at Kendal, so my trips to Ithaca are often...will certainly be there in July 2011 ;)
